We are delighted to invite you to join us at the World Bronchiectasis Conference, Brisbane, Australia 14 to 17 July 2025.

We stand at the cusp of a new era for the international bronchiectasis community where bronchiectasis has emerged from its history as a neglected, orphan condition to emerge as a new, visionary speciality area where enthusiastic and dynamic researchers are shaping a rapidly progressing future.

The patient’s voice has been finally heard and researchers, clinicians and industry are now actively collaborating to provide solutions to improve the patient journey through timely precise diagnosis, multidisciplinary management and dedicated treatments.

The 2025 World Bronchiectasis Conference will focus on the diverse nature of bronchiectasis aetiology, management and care and work together to develop inclusive solutions that fulfil the needs of all patients.

The 2025 Australian conference will bring together a diverse field of experts including all members of the multidisciplinary team, fostering an open dialogue between medical specialists, paediatricians, GPs, physiotherapists, nurses, student, researchers and biotechnological companies as well as scientific and patient associations to further our understanding of, not only the physiopathological mechanisms behind the disease, but also the future of therapeutics and everything in-between.

Another commitment the conference has taken is to nurture the next generation of leaders in the field through initiatives such as the Rising Stars program. By providing a platform for junior doctors, researchers, and clinicians to showcase their work and engage with seasoned experts, the conference serves as a catalyst for professional development and mentorship.

Bronchiectasis stands on the threshold of a new age of exciting developments.

After providing some basic information about you and your practice, you will be provided with a login to access the electronic case report form and the study protocol and documents. The global planning committee will organise events to be held on the special day to help raise awareness and share knowledge of the disease with the hope to help improve the lives of patients and identify those living undiagnosed. 9th International Workshop on Lung Health

The “9^th Edition of the International Workshop on Lung Health” is scheduled in The Hague from January 20^th to January 22^nd, 2022.

The workshop will cover a wide range of topics in the field of respiratory medicine, such as respiratory infections, asthma, COPD and related pathologies. It will include key insights and updates on rare respiratory diseases like ILD, IPF, Bronchiectasis and NTM.

More time will be devoted to discussion, interaction and contribution from the audience with the reconfirmation of the following interactive formats:

The Future Health Leaders Mentoring Programme (FuHeL) will welcome 10 – 12 selected early career researchers and clinicians who will be accompanied during the whole congress experience on a “career mentoring” by 3 mentors of excellence; Professor Stefano Aliberti, Professor James Chalmers and Dr Amelia Shoemark. The Rising Stars Programme will give the opportunity to young clinicians and researchers worldwide to present their valuable work for the first time in front of an international audience and get suggestion from the faculty members.
Posters and on site session discussions will give the opportunity to attendees to share projects and results of the most recent crucial world challenges in the Respiratory and related fields. The closing date for submission of absracts has been extended to the 25th October, 2021.

ELF-EMBARC bronchiectasis patient conference

The first ever bronchiectasis patient conference will be held virtually in collaboration with the European Lung foundation on Saturday 27^th February.

Patient-focused talks will be delivered virtually by bronchiectasis healthcare specialists giving patients, their families, friends and carers the opportunity to hear about the basics of the health condition, how it is treated including self-management and updates on the latest research. Speakers will also cover COVID-19 in regards to bronchiectasis health.

The conference is free to everyone, with a registration link coming soon.

EMBARC COVID19 substudy now open – invitation to participate

Due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak, it is extremely important we collect as much information about how this infection affects our bronchiectasis patients. We have therefore initiated data collection through the EMBARC registry for bronchiectasis patients with confirmed COVID-19.

For patients enrolled in the EMBARC study who develop laboratory confirmed COVID-19, you can now enter data through the EMBARC registry by clicking on the “EXACERBATION” tab in the database. Information can be added on any patients that have had COVID-19 since the beginning of the outbreak.

Bronchiectasis patients can be newly recruited to the EMBARC study during the time of COVID-19 exacerbation, however in the case that treatments may temporarily inhibit decision making skills for the patient, we request you obtain and document verbal consent from the patient for recontact at a later date, only at this point can the patient be consented as per GCP and data collected retrospectively.

We appreciate this is an extremely busy time for everyone but only through working together, can research make a difference. Those investigators who provide cases to the COVID-19 substudy would be invited to participate in subsequent EMBARC publications related to COVID-19.

Celebrations for the EMBARC family!

We are extremely proud to announce the publication of three papers in the Lancet journals last week.

Congratulations to the EMBARC project in India who have published the first report from the Indian bronchiectasis registry, the largest national dataset for bronchiectasis in the world. The study found remarkable differences between bronchiectasis in India compared to Europe and the United States. This has grabbed the attention of media and scientific community worldwide with a very positive response. The findings were published in the Lancet Global Health.

A second EMBARC paper saw Dr Jose Altenburg lead a meta-analysis on the use of macrolides in bronchiectasis patients while another meta-analysis on inhaled antibiotics was simultaneously published in the Lancet Respiratory Medicine and led by EMBARC fellow Irena Laska. The 3rd World Bronchiectasis Conference will be held in Washington DC, July 12-14th 2018.

This conference is open to all healthcare professionals caring for bronchiectasis patients and to patients themselves. The three days will cover topics such as breakthrough therapies, microbiology, physiotherapy and much more.

We are also very keen to receive your abstracts for display during the conference. If you are interested in showcasing your current research then please submit your abstracts before 1st June 2018. Take part in the new European NTM Registry

EMBARC is delighted to announce the launch of the new European Registry for Non-tuberculous Mycobacteria Pulmonary Disease (NTM-PD). The first meeting of the steering committee took place in Milan on the 10th September 2017 and the registry aims to involve as many European countries as possible over the next 12 months.

The aim of the study is to gather key epidemiological data about the spectrum of NTM-PD patients and to be representative across Europe. By building a critical mass of researchers and providing them with access to high quality data, we hope to stimulate greater research and interest in the field of NTM-PD.

We need all investigators with an interest in NTM-PD to sign up to participate in the registry. The data entry will utilise the EMBARC platform. Please contact us info@bronchiectasis.eu for more information about how to get involved.
